One of the main concerns that my husband and I had for our children was how to teach them to handle their money. Our problem was that we also had to learn to manage our money well. We both felt that we are not equipped to teach our kids the proper stewardship of money that God graciously gives us.

I feel very blessed to have been chosen as one of the reviewers for the Kid’s Wealth Money Kit. The owners have been so gracious that they sent three kits for each of my girls. The children were very excited to open their kits when it first arrived. I, too, was excited to use it. I saw it as a solution to the dilemma we had in teaching them about money management.

Before I introduced it, I already received in my email the ebook “Raising Money Smart Kids”. The ebook, written by the creators, explains the why’s and how’s of the Kid’s Wealth Money Kit. It gave me a deeper reason why I should make it a priority to teach my children about money management. Schools teach about money but not about the practical and wise handling of money.

I started our lesson by summarizing the story of the Kid’s Wealth creators, how they used to be in so much debt, but they determined that they will be able to pay off their debts and improve their standard of living. Not only that, they will also teach their children the right way of managing their own money because they realized that their children are bound to copy their bad practices.

Although I haven’t told my husband much about it, I invited him to join us so that we can both share to our kids what our family’s (our family of origin) money practices are (instant gratification, buy what we can when we can), what our family believed about money (that money is the end all and be all, life is hell without money), and how it is affecting our own family now. From there, I introduced the Kid’s Wealth Money Kit and how we will be using it. Its purpose is to teach kids about money management in a fun and interesting manner. I’m happy to see my husband fully involve and totally interested, since it has been a long-time desire for us to teach our children about the proper use of money.

The Kid’s Wealth Money Kit is an effective tool in teaching children about money management. Notice that I always say “money management” and not just “money”. Our children can learn about money anywhere, but not about money management. The creators, Michael and Elizabeth Da Silva, tell us that it is the parents’ 100% responsibility to teach our children about the wise management of money.

The children are excited about the prospect of receiving their own allowances and deciding what to buy with their FUN money. At first they worried that all their money will go inside the kits that they won’t have any left over. But after some more explaining, they saw that once they place their money in the respective wallets, they will still have money to spend coming from their FUN wallet.

My husband best summed it up this way: He said that if all Filipino children can learn the proper stewardship of money and apply it in their adult lives, this will result in a better future not only for the children themselves, but also for the whole country.

The only downside I can say for this is that the trackers (activity books) are in dollars. But we have easily remedied that simply by ignoring the dollar signs.

If you go to their website, you can download some of their worksheets and a teleseminar that you can listen to online for more information about this product.

Hi Michelle! Glad you were able to fix that comment-posting problem. I have read this Kit and I’m actually interested to use it. I mean my husband and I are always discussing on ways to teach our son to be “financially smart”. Thanks for reviewing this!
