Hello and Welcome to Beyond The Silver and The Gold – A Filipino Family’s Homeschool Journey.
Our homeschool journey began when my eldest, Guitar Babe, was only 7 years old. We had sent her to school for the past two years and I was not very happy about the result. At that time, I had the opportunity to meet several homeschooling families whose children were confident, happy and very, very smart. Hubby and I took a look at them and decided we wanted the same for our family. After much prayer, we took the plunge and proceeded to homeschool our eldest child. At first it was a yearly commitment, but after the third year, I was decided on doing it for a long time.
Now, Guitar Babe is 18 and getting ready for college. Our family has grown with Artsy Princess, 14, Sunshine Princess 8, and Flash Boy, 6. We are also blessed to have one of our love, a portion of our heart and family, Zachary Daniel, in Heaven with the Lord. This blog began in 2007 on Multiply when, feeling isolated from others, I started writing about how homeschooling affected life and how life affected our children’s schooling. My purpose was to be an encouragement to other homeschooling families.
In 2008 and 2010, I had the privilege to be a Homeschoool Product Reviewer for The Old Schoolhouse Homeschool Crew. Out of a total of 100 blogger reviewers in the USA, they chose 5 international bloggers and I was privileged to be one of them. This is where my own journey as a reviewer began. From then, I reviewed more homeschool products and Christian books sent to me from the USA until 2012.
In 2012, our family experienced the major upheaval of having our Zachary Daniel die and go to Heaven. With this came a major change, I became a work-at-home mom (WAHM). Standing on the foundation of my blogger experience, I worked as a Social Media Analyst for Balsam Brands. As such, I took care of a number of their social media pages, creating monthly posts, engaging with the community, strategizing their campaigns and analyzing the results.
Currently, I have transitioned from a WAHM employee to WAHMeo. Now I work for myself and am no longer employed. I am happy to be back to my blogging groove, caring for my kids, homeschooling them and earning at the same time.
It is my hope and prayer that you’ll come away from my blog encouraged and inspired, whether as a homeschool family or as a WAHM, or maybe even both.
