Family Discipleship – For Such A Time As This

Family Discipleship

Recently, our family experienced a test of our faith. I had undergone a trial involving other Christians which my kids observed. They watched me deal with the pain, saw me cry over it, saw my anger and how hard a time I had at first. They watched as I processed the whole thing, was able to forgive and is now moving forward again. As they watched, they also experienced the whole thing with me. It was painful, not only having to deal with what happened to me, but having to deal with the pain that my children felt over it. It was different for them. Being so young and idealistic, they thought that church isRead more …

A Blessing for This Chinese New Year

Feb 3, 2014 | Posted by in Devotions | 2

Last January 31, we spent the weekend with our family to celebrate the Chinese New Year. It felt like the whole Chinese community was out celebrating on Banawe, Quezon City. There were Chinese red lanterns, dragon dances and families out on that day wearing red! It was just a nice time to be with family and I was glad to be among the Chinese community. My parents prepared ampaos for us. These are Chinese red envelopes with Chinese calligraphy written in gold which is meant to bring luck to the owner. Of course, these were happily accepted by my kids with their Lola’s instructions to keep the ampao and not spend the money because itRead more …

Setting Our Course for 2014

Jan 27, 2014 | Posted by in Devotions | 0

Aimless – this is how I’ve been feeling these past weeks. Maybe it was because we all got sick coming into the new year and I got it the worse of all. Lying around, groggy with throat so raw and eyes swelled up does not help to motivate me. Strange because this is the first time I felt this way during a new year. In the past, the new year gave me so much hope. At the start of the year, hubby and I would go away on a trip together to talk about the year that was and to make plans for the year to come. This year we didn’t do it because weRead more …

On Whom Do We Place Our Security?

Getting Sick Last April, I woke up with diarrhea. I became so tired after a whole morning’s bout with diarrhea that I fell asleep just before lunch time. Upon waking up at 3:00 PM, I felt a different kind of pain in my tummy. The pain was so bad, no medicine, no changing of position, nothing can relieve me. My family finally decided to take me to the hospital where we found out that the pain was caused by gall stones that have blocked my bile duct. My doctor recommended that I undergo emergency laparoscopic cholecystectomy as soon as possible and I agreed. The surgery was successful but took my surgeon three hours to finish.Read more …

Hymn to a Good Wife – Proverbs 31-10-31 (The Message)

Aug 25, 2012 | Posted by in Devotions, Motherhood | 0

A good woman is hard to find,    and worth far more than diamonds. Her husband trusts her without reserve,    and never has reason to regret it. Never spiteful, she treats him generously    all her life long. She shops around for the best yarns and cottons,    and enjoys knitting and sewing. She’s like a trading ship that sails to faraway places    and brings back exotic surprises. She’s up before dawn, preparing breakfast    for her family and organizing her day. She looks over a field and buys it,    then, with money she’s put aside, plants a garden. First thing in the morning, she dresses for work,    rolls up herRead more …

Jesus is alive! What a wonderful blessing for all of us! In Him, we have hope, so much hope! Praise the Lord! Why, God?

Two weeks ago, the whole family went with me to get a congenital anomaly scan. This is an ultrasound wherein the doctor takes a look at all of the baby’s vital organs to check for any problems. It is about forty-five minutes to one hour long. We were so excited to finally learn that the baby is a boy. I was so happy to see the baby moving around inside my womb that I totally disregarded what the sonologist said about my placenta – that it was positioned at the edge of my cervix. I was suppose to see my doctor during that week but, for some reason, was unable to. Last Sunday after church,Read more …

Saying Goodbye is Hard But…

Mar 3, 2012 | Posted by in Devotions | 0

Saying “Goodbye” hurts and we all know it. Whether we are bidding adieu to our spouses who are going off to work abroad, to family and friends who are transferring to a faraway place, or even to classmates who will soon be studying at another school, there is a finality in saying “Goodbye” that makes it seem unbearable. But if we learn to look forward to what lies ahead, the hopes and dreams soon to be realized, the “goodbye” will be bearable. The hardest goodbye I’ve experienced so far was taking my husband to the airport so he can go off to work abroad. This happened to us three times. Gary D. went off toRead more …
