Family Discipleship – For Such A Time As This

Family Discipleship

Recently, our family experienced a test of our faith. I had undergone a trial involving other Christians which my kids observed. They watched me deal with the pain, saw me cry over it, saw my anger and how hard a time I had at first. They watched as I processed the whole thing, was able to forgive and is now moving forward again. As they watched, they also experienced the whole thing with me. It was painful, not only having to deal with what happened to me, but having to deal with the pain that my children felt over it. It was different for them. Being so young and idealistic, they thought that church isRead more …

More than 18 years ago, when I was still a very young mom-to-be, I made the important decision to breastfeed all my children. When my first baby arrived, I was eager to breastfeed but did not receive support from my family. Hubby was very supportive but it was just him and myself against the rest of my family of origin. Because of my perseverance, my milk came in about 3-4 days after the birth of Guitar Babe. My breasts were so full of milk. But I was faced with so many challenges: I was required by my boss (who was also my dad) to go back to work a month after delivery; I had aRead more …

Review: Medela Pump In Style Advanced Breast Pump

When my son, Zac, was born 7 weeks premature, one of the first things the neonatologist told me was that I had to provide breastmilk for him. Breastfeeding was not a problem for me since I’ve breastfed four babies in the past. The problem was that Zac was still in an incubator and would be staying there for a minimum of one month. How could I provide breastmilk when there was no way Zac could breastfeed from me? Without a baby suckling on my breast, I worried that I won’t be able to produce much milk. But I was a very determined mom. I had to provide the best source of nutrition for my baby.Read more …

Happy New Year to Our Heart in Heaven

Jan 10, 2014 | Posted by in Grief, Motherhood | 0

Two days before the end of 2013,  I was determined to clean up our home. Being very busy during the last quarter of the year and without a helper, our home hardly got cleaned. While cleaning up our cabinet, I discovered a bag of items that we brought home from the hospital after I gave birth to Zac. I keep Zac’s things in a big box so naturally, I thought of putting those items in the box. As I was going through the box, I noticed that I wasn’t feeling the urge to cry this time. I checked myself and saw that, indeed, I can stop crying now. I don’t have to cry anymore becauseRead more …

Hymn to a Good Wife – Proverbs 31-10-31 (The Message)

A good woman is hard to find,    and worth far more than diamonds. Her husband trusts her without reserve,    and never has reason to regret it. Never spiteful, she treats him generously    all her life long. She shops around for the best yarns and cottons,    and enjoys knitting and sewing. She’s like a trading ship that sails to faraway places    and brings back exotic surprises. She’s up before dawn, preparing breakfast    for her family and organizing her day. She looks over a field and buys it,    then, with money she’s put aside, plants a garden. First thing in the morning, she dresses for work,    rolls up herRead more …

Pregnancy Updates: Bed Rest is Not Easy

Apr 22, 2012 | Posted by in Bed Rest, Motherhood, Pregnancy | 0

This week, baby turns 31 weeks old in gestation. He and I are holding on and constantly praying that we reach full term at 38 weeks. As I’ve shared in my previous pregnancy update post, I’m giving this the best I can by following doctor’s orders of bed rest. It may seem like such a luxury for some of you but I assure you that it is not easy. The heat here in Manila is just too much, plus we don’t have airconditioning. Lying in bed in even less than an hour always makes me so sweaty all over. Then there are the aches and pains of being in just a few positions – lying on myRead more …

Why, God?

Two weeks ago, the whole family went with me to get a congenital anomaly scan. This is an ultrasound wherein the doctor takes a look at all of the baby’s vital organs to check for any problems. It is about forty-five minutes to one hour long. We were so excited to finally learn that the baby is a boy. I was so happy to see the baby moving around inside my womb that I totally disregarded what the sonologist said about my placenta – that it was positioned at the edge of my cervix. I was suppose to see my doctor during that week but, for some reason, was unable to. Last Sunday after church,Read more …

Pregnancy Updates

Mar 21, 2012 | Posted by in Homeschool, Motherhood | 0

I haven’t been writing blog posts lately. Since I became pregnant, I found myself easily tired. No surprise there because a mother’s body works harder when she’s carrying a baby. I find myself unable to combine homeschooling, homemaking and working in a day. BUT we are all very excited and looking forward to meeting this baby soon. By the way, this baby is a BOY! God answers prayers for sure! We just had a congenital anomaly scan a few days ago. The whole family came with me to have a peek of the baby. It was such a blessing to see him moving around, to see his little fingers open and close and to finallyRead more …

One Week of Rest

Jan 13, 2012 | Posted by in Life at Home, Motherhood | 1

Housework – 4 kids – homeschool – exhausted – lower back pain – contractions – hospital. Contractions are bad at this time because I’m only 15 weeks pregnant. That was me three days ago. My doctor recommended complete bed rest at home, with medications to help stabilize the baby. So I’ve been in bed the last two days, had our TV brought in the bedroom, sent the kids to the grandparents and getting the rest I need. We did have a treat when we went to the OB yesterday, Guitar Babe and I got to see the baby in the ultrasound. That was nice and reassuring – seeing the baby growing and hearing his/her heartbeat.Read more …
